Course Summary

The Professional Pilates Matwork Instruction Pathway builds the skills and knowledge to understand the pilates method fundamentals, pilates matwork repertoire Intro- Intermediate level including small apparatus, use of small props, progressions and regressions, “hands on” cueing techniques, planning and programming, application of the original concepts and principles of Joseph Pilates.

The Professional Pilates Matwork Instruction Pathway is a comprehensive study of the Pilates matwork equipping the learner to be ready to be employed in a variety of settings including gym/fitness centres, community, professional sporting clubs, elite talent development specialised schools, secondary schools, Pilates studios, groupfit studios, personal training studios with group and or one to one matwork practicable skills and knowledge to build general strength, conditioning and fitness.

The Professional Pilates Matwork Instruction Pathway is an evidence based curriculum acknowledging current research, sports medicine updates and up to date clinical practise.

The Qualification

The Professional Pilates matwork Instruction is a cluster of 6 units of competency drawn from the Diploma of professional Pilates Instruction (10838NAT) for a professional outcome.

Upon successful completion of the Professional Pilates Matwork Instruction you will receive 6 statements of attainment pertaining to the Matwork articulating directly into the Diploma of professional Pilates Instruction (10838NAT).

The Professional Pilates Matwork Instruction pathway is an evidence-based curriculum that is both government accredited and industry endorsed.

What will you learn?

The Professional Pilates matwork Instruction provides an accredited outcome of six units of competency drawn from the Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (10838NAT). As a student you will learn how to:

  • Basic anatomy and physiology principles and practical application to movement, through NPT’s pre-requisite gateway course introduction to Anatomy (or completion of HLTAAP001 Recognise Healthy Body Systems qualification or an equivalent)
  • Develop, conduct and evaluate Pilates Matwork programs
  • Instruct the Pilates Method Matwork and small apparatus repertoire from introductory to intermediate level
  • Instruct and assess clients who are apparently healthy 
  • Lead and instruct clients of low risk / apparently healthy nature including general conditioning 
  • Incorporate the use of Small Apparatus into the delivery of Matwork exercise for clients who are apparently healthy 
  • Contribute to Workplace Health and Safety requirements in the Pilates workplace.

Course Delivery

The Professional Pilates Matwork Instruction is delivered either online-only or face-to-face.

In Person

Students undertaking in person delivery of this course will get access to all learning materials for the six units of competency that comprise the Professional Pilates Matwork Instruction.

Students undertaking the in person delivery of this course will have access to all learning materials and resources for all. 6 number of units of competency within our Learning management system (LMS) and our NPT eLearn.

Students are required to undertake:

  • 230 hours of directed learning
  • 170 hours of Self-Directed Learning (SDL)
  • 50 hours of self-mastery  (unsupervised & compulsory x2 weekly supervised sessions)

Students are also required to attend:

  • 1x repertoire practice
  • 2 x tutorials
  • 3 x teaching clinics

Students completing in person studies must also undertake 100 hours of either simulated or real work experience, comprising:

30 hours observation

70 hours teacher training

100% online - Self Directed

Students undertaking the 100% online – Self directed of this course will get access to all learning materials for the six units of competency that comprise the Professional Pilates Matwork Instruction.

Students undertaking the 100% online – Self directed delivery of this course will have access to all learning materials and resources for all. 6 number of units of competency within our Learning management system (LMS) and our NPT eLearn.

Students are required to undertake:

  • 230 hours of directed distance learning
  • 170 hours of Self-Directed Learning (SDL)
  • 20 hours of self mastery
  • 50 hours of self-mastery (unsupervised & compulsory x2 weekly supervised sessions)

Students can choose to attend to tutorials, repertoire practise sessions and teaching clinics (work placement hours) at an additional cost.

Students completing 100% online – Self directed studies must also undertake 100 hours of either simulated or real work experience, comprising:

30 hours observation

70 hours teacher training

Work placement

he work placement component is an essential phase of your training. Being able to put all of your knowledge into practice before you leave the course ensure that you are confident and ready to take on work as an instructor in a professional environment.

The work placement hours for this course are part of the delivery schedule and completed through “on-the-job” assisting hours and real time hours at a nominated work placement site.

Note that you are still under the supervision of a qualified and experienced practitioner during your work placement.

100 hours of work placement is compulsory to gain accreditation
